Hmmm...well I guess that explains my experience since my brothers 540 (and the 540s of the people I know who have had their oil tested) tell him to change the oil typically between 7000-8000 miles.

On the E46 M3 I ran 10w60. Yeah that's right! 10 w 60. Couldn't even find anyone else but Castrol that made it and for the first couple years I HAD to buy it at the dealership. Bav auto set me up later. In fact, I still have a case in my garage. Talk about useless. Anyways, I am a paranoid mf. I 'm not going to let my oil sit unchanged for more than 10k miles (or 5k to be honest) no matter how much the manufacturer tells me it's ok. I've always felt there's more to consider than just the quality of the oil when you think about changing the oil. Is that a professional statement? No, just my own paranoia. Alright, really every 3k miles but no more than that, I swear.
