silverstutt, I would enjoy that. My inlaws live near Willow Springs...maybe I'll run into you at a track day. I would love to change my avitar to something a little more pleasant to look at. I forgot how I reduced the picture in the first place. Maybe I can get my 12 year old to show me how to use Photoshop. You obviously are very skilled with it. Thanks for the laughs...I still can't believe how real the picture looked. I could see myself getting into lots of trouble if I knew how to use that program.

never been to Willow Spring, but it looks like I'm going with the PCA this month or next month, I'll let you know tomorrow when I get to my office (I have the dates there) They are having a autocross event all day on the actual street of willow track!

try photobucket...you load up your pictures there and it will automatically reduced them to avatar, signature, banner...whatever size you want....

The original owner of my car swapped out the carrera badge for a 911 one- the second owner (person I purchased from) had the 911 taken off and a carrera badge put back on. . . and I am probably going to put a 911 badge on!!

 

Has anyone tried taking three nines, turning the last one upside down, and putting 996 back there? I wonder how that would look?

For what it's worth I (new to the 996 community but an old time 911 owner) believe the last 911 was built in 1989, and hence the badge doesn't truly belong on a 996. That said, it does indeed say 911 on the title, and Porsche does refer to the car as a 911, so I guess it's not a big deal.

The real question is, why on earth did they start badging 911's as Carreras back in 1989 ? It used to be that the Carrera was a limited edition race prepared version of a series car, where the name could be applied to any model. These days for instance , the car we know as the GT3 and GT3S would be known as the Carrera and the Carrera RS, and it would have meant something. They totally sold out the Carrera name IMHO, but whatever, it's their car company.

These days my view is softening a bit anyway, mostly because I'm getting to old (and wise, nah!) to fight about useless stuff. I'll still fight about the Cayene sucking though. It will take a long time before I give that fight up!

All this reminds me of the classic Porsh-a versus Porsh debate. This raged on over at the Pelican board for years, here too probably. In the end it was agreed that either pronunciation was acceptable, and in fact it turned out a lot of Europeans (Germans included) were saying Porsh in stead of Porsch-a.

When I finally get my car (still two weeks away I think) I'll probably debadge, and stick the Carrera script on my toolbox. The 911 badge looks ok when done right, so I can't muster any argument why the OP shoudln't go ahead. Like he cares what I think anyway.
