Sounds like we need to 'send the boys round for a little chat' - your stealership is obviously getting you to personally fund their kids through college or something!

My dealer just told me it was $150 to reprogram the key. Reading this thread it becomes obvious this is a rather subjective fee they set.....I am better informed now....I will contact the dealership and advise them that the price seems to fluctuate by geographical area and see what they say....probably tell me to take it to where it's cheaper....100 miles away!!.

I was forced to pay $150 at the local Stevens Creek, even though:
* They thought I bought the key at the parts department.
* I transferred the immobilizer pill and key blade for them.
* They only had to add the bar code, and the tech goofed it up twice because he couldn't type. (Still took only 10 minutes.)
* I had to ASK that they delete the code from the dead key as they would normally just leave the old broken codes in there. (You have 4 slots for codes.)

I was polite but basically WTF. I was told quite bluntly that they have to pay for their new PIWIS somehow so they don't care if it only took 10 minutes.

I'd be surprised if an independent can reprogram the key. You need to have a hookup to Porsche in order to obtain a programming key to access the protected area in the car. You need that key to enter that code into the PIWIS/PST2 to gain access. My understanding is only the Porsche dealer network can get these programming codes (which have nothing to do with the codes of the keys themselves).

$77 is cheap - Champion Porsche charges $130 just to reprogram the key. But then again, it might take them 7 minutes to do it...

I was going to say the same thing...$77 is a lot cheaper than the $150 raping that the local dealership seems to want. You should consider yourself fortunate and just get it done for that price.

saw this post and wanted to add something to it. i got out of the club at 415a, tired as hell. Valet loses my key. that was the only key i had for this car! i was pissed but i have know these guys for seven years and they have parked all my cars so i know they didnt lose it on purpose and will refund me either way. anyways, i ended up spending 4.5 hrs TRYING to find a flat bed towtruck to get my car to the dealer or at least home.

long story short: got car to dealer. dealer charged me 306 for the DAMM KEY AND REMOTE and they now wana charge me $150 for an hour of labor, which i know by reading this post that it should only take 15min tops. so the total my valet guys will pay is $100 for the tow, 456 for the key + my time = $600 bucks. if this was my fault, i would NOT want to pay this 306 for a FUGGEN KEY, ITS A FUGGEN KEY, NOT ANYTHING ELSE! owning this car makes me question Porsche's commitment to its owners.

Didn't read 100% of the entries here. Did anyone mention just changing the battery?

Sorry for the bad luck, but shouldn't you buy two?
