Yeah, I'm pretty sure that most Porsche dealers attend the "shafting the customer 101" class. I have not been impressed with what I've seen from my local dealer... my guys are great at refusing to warranty Porsche parts... we don't like the design of your Porsche aero sides, so we won't warranty the install.

If a 996 owner needs a new key shaft (lost entire thing), they are available from Sunset for about $75 (with faxed proof of ownership).
I got my new remote key head on Ebay for $70. Be sure you get the bar code tag.
Took a this new combination, plus a valet key .... to Hennessy Porsche in north Atlanta. Service dept programmed both .... in about 10 minutes .... for a total of less than $50. Gave me a cup of Starbucks while I waited.

If you need an entire key, then my cost was:
$75 Key shaft from Sunset
$70 key head (with bar code) on Ebay
$47 programming car for this new key head (and a valet key).

Hopefully, while they are "doing you," they will at least give you a "reach around!"

Wow! No dinner. No reach around. And I got left with sand and a jumpy gerbal behind. Here's the deal. The cost is 350$ and I have to come back and make an appointment so the mechanic can do the job. The nearest dealer is in Tuscon so I don't see as I have a choice.
