Hi Elfer Fans:

On my 2000 996 - I am trying to replace my silver horn pad crest with a new colored crest.

Does anyone know how to remove the old one from the wheel ? It seems to be stuck on real good... is it riveted or similar?

It makes me a bit nervous to try to forcefully pry the crest out knowing there is an airbag ready to go off undreneath it.

The new crest simply comes with a sticky back so I assume that the old one is also just stuck. Not however what someone working at my local Porsche dealership parts-department told me- who said the crest is an integral part of the airbag/pad system and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire pad and airbag. Is this humbug?....sounds like it.

Any pointers ?

It is riveted, part of the airbag, and will NOT come off. It is riveted for a reason......the last thing you want is one of those stick on crests and then have an accident, airbag explode and a crest become a projectile.
