You can easily solve this problem by painting the CF hood. Unpainted it's going to look a little "pimped" IMHO.

Have you thought about a 993 style hood with the indentation (don't know how else to describe it) in the center of the hood that gets deeper as it moves back to the windshield. Those actually look pretty cool. Something like this:

i agree.... the 993 with the indentation looks pretty nice on our 996. planning on this mod in the future........ but i think the CF on our cars right now other then black or maybe silver looks a liitle RICEY..........

What about the color CF hoods, I see them at Deft Racing. I have a yellow 2003 cab, and just started thinking about the CF hood (mine needs repainting). I am concerned that the unpainted CF would be too much contrast, but the yellow CF you be subtle enough. Anyone used the color CF for anything?

Paint it boy... You don't want to have your Porsche in Civic style... In Japan and Germany, ppl paint their CF parts.

+1

I have Vesuvio as well, and I can't see the CF going with it.

I too thought about this when I came to the crossroads of hood repainting. The question I could not get an answer to was, do CF Hoods suffer from rock/debris chips like painted hoods do?

Thanks to all for the words of wisdom. Here is a link to a couple of CF hoods that are for sale over at 6-speed...they are $800 or best offer with the silver hood emblem. They appear to be pretty nice. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=74874

I value all of your opinions. I'm going to go ahead and have my hood repaired. I still think the CF hood looks good on certain colors....just not mine. If I had a white, silver, red, blue, or yellow car, I would get the CF hood and keep the stock hood handy for when I got tired of it. It's too bad that every other Honda with a fart can exhaust has a CF hood. I found a picture online of a red Ferrari with a CF hood....it looked great.
I also like the 993 style hoods; however, if I have to have it painted, it defeats my purpose. My decision now will be whether to have the hood repaired correctly (a full repaint) or have a professional do their best to touch up the chip and take the remaining insurance money & apply it toward my ROW M030 suspension upgrade.

I think the CF hood will kill resale....if that matters to you, stay OEM.

I just wondered about this: Will a CF hood still meet the safety crash standards of the OEM hood?
I mean, will it help absorb impact, and crumple the way the OEM hood was designed to?
Or will it smash right thru' the windshield!!??

The best fit is the GT3 RS hood OEM 996. But they are EXPENSIVE! 3-5k~

It comes primed on top, so the weave only shows through on the underside when its open.

I've heard of lots of fit issues from aftermarket exterior carbon.

I'm meeting with my CF guy on Sat. regarding other issues and noticed this thread. Any idea how many people might be interested in a quality CF hood? I could run this buy him and see if there might be interest by both parties. He does mostly one off show/race car type body panels. If you guys could give me an approximate quantity, maybe he could work up an approximate price. Let me know if there might be any interest. I have no business connection other than he has done some work for me in the past.

Go for the savings and the ROW suspension Mark....you'll appreciate the upgrade in suspension far more than a CF hood....every time you drive it on the twisties you'll smile.
