Default WTT 997 19" 5-spoke wheels/tires for 996 18" wheels

So, along with the lovely news about my RMS failure, my independent mechanic has identified that the 19" wheels the previous owner put on are rubbing the rear shocks. My PPI did identify a minor cosmetic rub in the front wheel well when turning, but did NOT identify the rear rub. So, before I damage my rear suspension parts...

I'm looking to trade my 19" wheels for a set of wheels that are correctly sized for my car. My ideal trade would be for 18" 5-spoke wheels (either turbo twist or the straight spoke) with brand new tires, no cash. My 19" wheels are in great shape, have about 1,000 miles on the tires, and are 997 take-offs (so they are running Porsche standard P-zeros). I'll entertain other offers.

I'm in San Diego, so would prefer dealing with someone local or nearby.

I will also entertain outright purchase offers.

PM me here, or post if interested.

you could go to th edealer, or any good shop could do it....you would need 2 5mm spacers and 10 longer wheel bolts....Porsche sells all this stuff....or if you REALLY want, you can sell me the wheels/tires....I do have a set of chrome 18" twists in decent shape....

Funny I have 19" 997's with the 997 tires and have no rubbing...I do have PSS9 coilovers and maybe they are different enough not to rub....also alignment probably has something to do with it as well...maybe my alignment is less aggressive than yours, and maybe height has something to do with it....my car is kinda low....just a few variables to throw at ya....

I'd be willing to trade you. I actually have been wanting to trade my wheels for 19" so it works for both of us. I have attached a picture of my wheels.

I spoke with the actual mechanic a bit, and he said the rubbing is only under extreme conditions when I'm flexing the tires, or when backing up with tight turning. So, the previous owners probably just looked good in the car but never pushed it, and I've pushed it a bit. He also says the damage, if any, will be to the tires, not the wheels or suspension, and he doubts there will be enough to worry about unless I'm racing every weekend.

Given that, I don't really want to deal with shipping the wheels around, though the wheels you have are exactly what I'm looking for.

If there is anyone in SoCal that wants to do a trade, let me know!

Go with the spacers and call it a day! Save you money you have already spent enough on a new used car with the RMS.

Actually, mechanic says spacers wouldn't solve the problem, I would just start rubbing on the outside. The 997 wheels are too wide for the 996, so no amount of spacers is going to help. Sez he...

Mechanic is full of it...find another mechanic....unless you have something weird going on with your car. The 996 GT3 is a narrow body and uses 18x11 with a 63 offset. you have a 19x11 with a 67 offset. Your tires stick in 4mm more that the 996 GT3. a 5mm spacer would put it 1 mm farther out than a GT3. You have 1 mm of clearance EASILY. Are you sure you have 997 C2 wheels and not 997 C4 wheels? They are a different offset. And what size tires are they? Maybe someone went to a 305/30/19 or 315/30/19, the correct size should be 295/30/19.

Tell you what, when I get the car back (tomorrow or Friday), I'll post the size of the tires, and we can figure out what I've got, and what's the right course of action...

Also, if your wheels are Porsche OEM wheels, the wheel width and offset should be stamped on either side of the valve stem. Shoot a close up pic in the valve stem area of one front and one rear wheel. That will let us know the size and offset for the wheels.
