I know this dealer - about a year ago I almost bought a 1991 BMW 850 from them w/ 32K. They are "shady" and gave me the creeps. That said, it does not necessarily mean the car has any problems. Just, caveat emptor. Do your homework and have the car checked out. They have had other 'seemingly' nice cars before and do seem to move merchandise.

Thanks. I really don't need shady at this point! I may stick with CPO cars and buy from a real Porsche dealer.

Have a PPI done at a dealer. I highly doubt they put in a new clutch and a new transmission on thier dime. If its a new clutch the pedal should feel nice and light and smooth. A new transmission, when viewed from underneath wont have any cosmoline on it. I like this car, its similar to what I would buy but I would get a third party (preferably a dealer) to give it a PPI.

Or don't be afraid to buy used from a private party.

I visited this dealer last summer when they advertised a beautiful blue 99 C2 Cab. They told me the car had been sold the week before. Okay, back to searching. Several weeks later, a search result from cars.com pulls up the same car at this place? I'm sure there could be logical reasons for this to happen, but something gave me a bad gut feeling. Be careful. PPI is a must!

For this kind of purchase (high-end Sports car), I wont be buying from "Sluggo's Cars", or the equivilent! Two people got a bad feeling about this place, so NEXT!

I wouldn't let that bother you Tom. I imagine that many dealers won't bother to cancel an ad for a car sold - it may still generate calls, and that's what they want.

However, that said, if the place/seller gives you a bad vibe, for whatever reason, then prudence dictates that you walk.

I have almost 50k on my 2004, so 60k on a 2002 seems like it wasn't driven enough

The mileage isn't high, but the price is. I got my '02 with a CPO and 50k miles for $43,975 last May. It's now at 73k miles and running very nicely, but I seriously doubt I'd get $39,999 for it.

Records, records, records, records..........like an airplane, I would not buy a 996 without records......I have every record since my car came to the states.............I would not have it any other way........I never knew the first owner of my car, but I know exactly what was performed in terms of maintenance and repairs.......

I really think buying a Porsche is not too dissimiliar from buying a plane if done right.....

I agree...records are key! So are the original manuals and papers - shows the owner cared about the details.

My 944 is plane-like. I replaced every damned part on that thing - now it flys like new!
