I Want to start by saying I have installed a lot of aftermarket parts at diffrent times. SOme have been better then others, some have been nightmares and elaing with the company alos not great . I just wanted to share my experince and hopefully the moderators are ok with that.
I was asked by a customer to install a fvd clutch and flywheel package in his 997s. I was hesitant as most of the time this doesnt go well. But the customer was persistant and wiling to step up if there were any issues.
So He brought me a l/w flywheel and a clutch kit from fvd. The first thing i noticed was it looked to me like a 996 setup not a 997 setup.
So I called fvd to ask what was going on, MY call was ansered in the first 2 rings. I spoke to a gentleman who tranfered me to someone to answer my questions, I was on hold for about 6 seconds. I spoke to a techncial adviser who answered all my questions and concerns and was very helpfull.
So I installed the parts, everything went right in like factory, absoluty no issues with the install.
Moment of truth, started up the car, (always a scary moment dealing with aftermarket parts) and everything worked.
The test drive.
The pedal feel is way diffrent then stock, engaement is higher ( short strokes nicely)
deffinaty revs quicker and acclerates harder (I did not drive the car to the full extent as its not my car and the clutch needs to break in , but im sure it would only be more impressive with more throttle)
. The taking off engagement is rough, but you should expect that going with the single mass flywheel and a race clutch, smooth take offs are a thing of the past.
Over all
fvd = pleasure to deal with
product = good install, good quality, and very impresive results
If I had a 9x6/9x7 and was in the market for a raceing style clutch, fvd would get my bussiness
They really are good people to deal with. I did and will deal with them again. So now that everything went well, would you do it again or you're still on the fence??
I've dealt with ***** & Co several times. So far, so good. I also drove the Boxster S 3.8S conversion, adn I can tell you it was awesome - a great conversion and a scary-fast car when it was done.
I am currently waiting to get my car in for an installation of Recaros - it's been a few weeks so far. The only downside is the delay between purchase and installation, but that has to do with their limited (US) shop facility. I'll provide feedback next week to advise if all went as promised.
+1 I have their lwt flywheel in my 996 (they even shipped it out in a hurry since we found my stock flywheel had cracks and needed one fast) and am most happy with it.
I also have had a good experience with FVD. I bought a primary muffler bypass for my 964. Everything fit and performed well, and their price was about the lowest I could find on the web ($200). I even found a replacement turn signal switch assembly for my 964 in their clearance items (only $100 instead of $300). I do think you still need to check prices on any item you buy. On some items FVD is very competitive, if not the cheapest. However, on other items I find myself thinking "are they on drugs?".
thanks for the info and review... it's tough to find a reputable company where they treat you right..... hopefully they maintain their professionalism... they certainly have my business....
