Default Paint Center Console

Alrighty, I've done a search and i don't see anyone doing this or maybe the thread was so small that it eluded me......
anyways, has anyone painted there own center console, vents, etc....... ? do you have pics? how hard was it and what kind of problems would i run into.... ?
i mean wouldn't it be cheaper since we already have the core, rather then buying one? these things are not cheap, and i figured if we paint them all at once it would save a lot of money..... so i can mod something else with that money.........

Are you talking about the one around the vents and temp control screens?
I remember someone painted his red against his black interior, looked really good.
It was a cab.

I've thought of doing mine silver to match the door handles, etc,
but am too afraid to mess it up. Concerned about chipping and peeling, or scratches....

I was just chatting with Eric at Bumper Plugs about this a bit. Have you checked out his site? It's bumperplugs.com. He's got some good pictures on there and has a core exchange price. I'm planning on do it in a few weeks.

Wow, that is nice, newport! Amazing how they get the gloss on a matte plastic surface!?

But isn't that called the rear console? I thought the center console was the one vertical around the AC vents? Correct me if I'm wrong please.

My paint guy said it was the primer and prepping that was the key...it had to be primed and sanded a few times or it would come out bad....you may be correct about it being the rear console....i guess i just call them center consoles...I plan to do the same with my "center" console....lol...

Actually, prep and primer are only half of the story. If the chemical process we use is not followed (it is unique), down the road the finish will crack, spider or release from the material and peel off.

We've been doing this for over eight years, and the process is a bitch to do right. It takes more material and labor than most shops would use on an entire side panel of a vehicle. Trust me.

More pics on the Gallery page of our SITE .

Yes eric, you are correct, it must be done by someone who knows what they are doing...dont think mine was done with a chemical process. Mine has been in for 2 years and its held up perfectly....My guy is Raj at Culver City Customs, formerly Venice Collison Experts...they also do the bumper conversions...and usually have some bumpers in stock for the conversion...they also do lots of 02+ facelifts as well as widebody conversions and their paint jobs are AMAZING....they do awesome work at a good price...they know Porsche's....310-202-1555...its crazy I know the number by heart....lol...

Its a Boxster....standard 986 Boxsters came with 5 speeds, 6 speeds were only available in the Boxster S, until the 987....the 6 speed is an option on the base, still standard on the S.....
