How do I flush all coolant/water from the cooling system?
How do I flush all coolant/water from the cooling system? Does it need "Porsche " type coolant only like beemers use only the blue.

Unless your cooling system has been compromised, there is no need to flush the entire system. I remove 2 gallons of coolant each time I change the oil by simply removing the coolant plug on the back of the engine. This removes 2 gallons of coolant. I then refill with Peak lifetime 50/50.
http://www.peakantifreeze.com/peak_g...time_5050.html.
This procedure is quicker and eliminates the risk of breaking hoses and other connections, removes contaminants and ensures that fresh coolant is always in the system. It also eliminates any chance of the water pump running dry as occurs when flushing the system.
If you do want to drain the entire system, put aside several hours as the underbody panels must be removed along with hoses, etc and pressurizing the system is necessary.

Actually, your car will never run at 180F (even in sub zero temps) except as it passes by that point in it's way higher. Target coolant temp is 194F and that temperature can be maintained as long as the car is moving at around 60 mph or faster. Otherwise, coolant temp will be higher, Stop and go driving will bring temperatures to 215F+. Your gauge does not accurately reflect coolant temperature.

I have been watching that gauge for last 1500 miles. Been running a few mm over 180. Was cruising on interstate 50mph 20 miles then maybe 60ish. Dusk. It ran at 180. And then ran back to few mm over 180. Thanks for your statment however.

Like I said, the gauge is not accurate. Your car's engine cannot run even close to 180F.
Use the climate control screen to look at the actual coolant temperature. To see it, do the following:
Press and hold in the recirculate and the top (arrow up) buttons on the right side of the panel for a few seconds. The left screen will change. Using the + key below that screen, adance so the display reads 6c. Then press the center vent button once. The display will show you your coolant temp.
To go back to normal, simply press AUTO.

If your needle moves to the right of the zero in 180, your coolant temp is in the 210's.

We are getting somewhere guys. I have some checking to do. My memory (I am not going outside for an hour or so) serves me right it was up and down at what I called 180. I dont really like the sound of the 210 ish number. Been responsible only for air cooled cars for last 7 years so have to become better versed in my water cooled motor too.

Radiator Fan and Engine Compartment Fan Switch Mod
The 3.4 996 runs extremely hot when driving around town in temperatures higher than 75 degrees. This mod is a way to reduce coolant temps back to a safer level, helping to reduce oil temps and improving performance.
The mod consists of installing a switch that will allow you to turn on the high speed radiator fans at any time, while maintaining the automatic operation of the fans. We do the same for the engine compartment fan.
Radiator Fans
Connect a wire to the ground of the 2 high speed fan relays located on the relay carrier located in the driver’s side foot well. The relays are #20 and #22. Feed this wire to where your switch will be located. Connect the wire to one side of the switch. Connect another wire from the other contact on the switch and then connect the other end of this wire to a chassis ground point.
With key on, this switch will now immediately turn on both radiator fans providing maximum cooling. When you turn the key off, the fans will continue to run for about 5 seconds until the relay shuts down. Your fan operation remains normal when the switch is off.
