Default Denison unit not necessarily plug and play...

I bought the Denison Galaxy 500 and attempted to have it installed today. Unfortunately this was unsuccessful. I have the CD-R 23 head unit that will also accept a CD changer. Problem is, since I don't have a CD changer, the head unit needs to be reprogrammed (by the dealer!) in order to recognize the Denison box. So, if you are in a similar situation, you may want to get your head unit reprogrammed FIRST, so that the installer can troubleshoot the actual installation.

Why are you making it seem like Eric is at fault?

You should change the title of the thread to something like "Thinking about getting a Denison unit? Possibly not all plug & play"
This way you are passing along information and not making it sound like Eric's fault.

My $ .02.

Agreed, not cool dude - kind of a ****ty title. Eric did us all a huge favor in putting this together and making a company get moving on this solution.

...okay, so it wasn't just me that thought that.

Certainly the fact that you bought the unit from Eric was irrrelevent to anything that you experienced, so shouldn't have been brought into the conversation.

I didn't mean to. I was just trying to make it clear that it was referring to the unit offered in the group buy.

Okay,

I am an idiot. Eric just replied to my email I sent him pointing him to this thread and he also felt like I was blaming him. I would like to take this moment to publicly apologize to him for this misunderstanding. Eric provided a great service and I appreciate being included in the group buy. Sorry for bungling what I thought might be an informative post.

No sweat guys. Appreciate the notes.

I think there are numerous issues we will all run into during installation as each head unit is different the way it handles this installation.

Feel free to email me with ANY issues if you cannot resolve through Dension, and I'll dig for the info.

Thanks!

Just thought I would add a quick note to say that I got mine yesterday and installed it. It took me a couple hours, but mostly because I was going slow and trying not to break anything. I spent probably 45 minutes trying to figure out the optical connectors, and ultimately found the right connector to splice the existing MOST fibers directly to the Dension box w/o using additional cables. I did what may be the easiest install, removing the CD changer and replacing it with the Dension box and ipod (to stay in the trunk). It worked the first time I turned on the PCM. It's going to take a while to understand the UI of this unit (Steve Jobs would cringe), but it definitely works. For me, it was plug and play. At this point, it looks like it only displays song title, not artist or album info, but maybe there is another way to configure it (I didn't have much time to play after the install).

Question for all of you who have installed the unit. What do you need to enable the cd changer...can it be done with Durametric software or do you need a PST2 (or better) Porsche system tester? TIA.

Even if I have PCM 2.1 and Sport Chrono, must I still have the dealer program the PCM (?) so that it will recognize the Dension?

I am in your situation right now! my 03 with cdr23 and no changer is at a local installer but they are anble to get it working. Do I need to ask the dealer to progam the head unit so that it thinks there is a cd changer?

Thanks for any info!

Thanks for the info!

I had the gateway 500 installed today and took it to the dealer where they turned on the CDC function and it works well. Now....is there anyway to get playlist names or track titles to display on my cdr23 head unit display?

Thanks for any MORE help

not that I have found. Also, I would love to be able to shuffle the songs but I can't get that to happen either.
