This RMS thing is a bit crazy. Because you have a leaking seal you think the engine may go, not so. The seal is a $20-$30 part. Its only a pain cause you have to drop the trans to get to it. And its just a leak when it does go bad. This is simply a common problem, but it shouldnt be an alarm that your engine will be a POS or something.

Dont worry about it, it will be fixed and will be a non issue. Dont read anything into your engine cause of a single leaking seal.

hey lvdell...... just trying to say that if the car is under warr. you should be okay. and that once the car is out of warr. that's a major concern bc of the cost to fix it...........hope it didn't come off as somrthing else........

nope, didn't come as anything else. Just asking what kind of logic it was. If you don't plan on keeping it past the warranty then if you treat that car "like you stole it" then you have nothing to worry about. However, if you do decide to keep it past the warranty, you best take better care of your car

The other issue though is the ISS. That COULD cause catastrophic engine failure and its symptoms are oil leaks also, right?

The IMS (intermediate seal) as well as the RMS does not cause engine failure. A total loss of oil would cause the failure. But for a RMS or IMS to to fail and have all 9+ liters of oil escape is so remote it's not even worth thinking about.

the seal leak is jsut a leak nothing breaks becasue of it
when the ims breaks there is no oil leak before it goes , once it breaks all the oil comes out, theres little warning (slight grinding noise from the bellhousing area...ive seen one pre failure, you never really know) and even at that point your gonna need an engine

Gotcha. Thanks LVDell and 99firehawk. Either way, if I see a drop every 3 days, it sounds like it's not the end of the world. Thanks.
