Default Audi Curse!

So, I have this great 2001 A4 2.8Q with 30K miles. Wonderful car. Storm last March - tree falls on her and after $5K body work and repainting approximately 75 percent of the car, she's back. Today, while backing out of a spot at the local post office, WHAM - some jackass in an '01 K1500 Chevy pickup slams into my rear door, and speeds out of the parking lot. Fortunately, MB salesman sees the whole thing, gets her tag and I file police report. Thankfully, she's insured - stupid, but insured. Now I get to have the other 25 percent of the car not destroyed by the tree repaired and repainted. I was going to give it to my kid for med school, but I'm rethinking this, since I believe the car is cursed. I'm serious, I may get rid of it. BTW, only nice thing a MB dealer has ever done for me.

It could be worse - if you actually drove your Porsche, they would have crunched a much more expensive car!

On a serious note, I'm glad to hear that you're OK

Thanks for the well wishes. After making sure I was OK, that was actually my next thought. Fortunately, she's tucked away for the winter.

3 audis, no curses, maybe a few mechanical gremlins though I don't believe in cursed vehicles, although I do know several people who do, but I always believed it was more a cultural phenomenon

2 strikes like that is enough for this vehicle to be considered bad luck and I am not even that superstitious. I would get rid of it.

Phil G., I got a laugh out of your comment regarding the MB Dealer. It sounds like your experiences might be similar to mine. I have two SL600s. I can't talk to a mechanic at my local dealership to save my life. They wanted to charge me $250 to give me an estimate to repair my top...I fixed it myself, it was a fuse.
I just bought an 01 from a dealer in the bay area that was on their used car showroom with 32,000 miles. It was described to me as being perfect. We made a deal over the phone and I picked it up in the evening. It was outside away from the light and it it was dirty. Boy was I stupid.
When I got it home and had a chance to wax it, I discovered that it had hundreds of rock chips that had been touched up with a brush. The manager that I bought the car from no longer works there, the new manager said, "what do you expect from a six year old car". To make my paint look decent will cost me about $5,000. MB USA refused to get involved. I guess that this makes me appreciate how fantastic my local Porsche dealer is.
Sorry to rant & rave. I'm sorry to hear about your Audi. You sound like a great dad. You must be proud of your son. I hope my kids make such good career choices.

Phil,
Glad to hear that you're okay. Hope the woman got a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.... stupid people. As others have said, at least you were not driving the garage queen.

I've been close to purchasing at least 2 MB's in the past, but my experiences at the dealerships have generally been awful. And the really beautiful high end Benzes were a bit out of range for me. I actually went back to the dealership today to personally thank the guy who took the tags (he's a service rep). Very nice guy - I'm planning to send him a thank you gift - I think he may have saved me a $500 deductible. Thanks for your comments - I try to be a good dad - what could be more important. I've got identical twins boys - one headed to medical school and the other (smarter one ) going to be a teacher! Great kids, both of them.

The queen is safe on her throne, mating for the winter with the Charge-o-Mat.
