Too much to consider. Do you know how much a GT3 engine costs? Have a beer , sit down and read on...................................................................... ........................................................................ ................. you are looking at anything between US$ 30-40K (used/new) and that's just the engine!

Ciao,

J.

Agreed. You'll spend a fortune doing that transplant and have an "odd" car that will never get you that money back on resale. Sell the C4 and buy a GT3 or a TT if you want that power.

the only way to be feasable is if you have an older car with a blown motor and can get a wrecked car t oget al the parts from for cheap other wise its not worth it

Yeah what about his motor just grenaded (out of warranty) and instead of paying 10k for the same 300 hp motor he pays 20-25k for a GT3 motor. I know I would consider it.

- god please don't let this happen to me.

Well for starters, he ISN'T getting a GT3 motor for 20K. Further, it is not a plug-n-play motor with a base 996. This would require serious $$$ to convert and it would be smarter to just buy a GT3 and have iot done right.

even if you found a gt3 motor for 20k
you will need a body harness 1000
dme 3500 -5000
trans 6000
flywheel clutch 3000
clucth slave and hydrolic system 1500
someone to make it work 5000-7000

All true. The closest to "plug and play" would be to supercharge a standard engine.

Well I said I would consider it and I did.

FWIW... I know of a recent GT3 motor replacement covered by Porsche and the charge themselves sticker was 50k.

I agree. Sell your car and buy a GT3 or Turbo.

You will come out way ahead ($$$$) of trying to do a conversion.

While we're on the topic, imagine blowing a $30K engine after the conversion!! Whew. Thank God Bob didn't have a GT3 engine in his car. Would have spammed the whole internet!

Actually, on a side note, why not sell the C4 and then buy a GT3 as others recommended? For some reason, I respect the GT3 more than the Turbo, maybe due to its pure racing lineage ... pure engineering vs a blower strapped on . If you're a porsche motorhead, how can you not like that ?!

One option would be to install a 3.8 997S Engine with X51. This will give you the same 381hp as the mk2 GT3, and will cost you $26,310 installed (by FVD). Of course it is still not a real GT3 engine, but perhaps a realistic alternative to supercharging. For a mk2 GT3 you are probably looking at ~$85,000, so the math is still questionable. However, 996 turbos can be had from the mid $60k's, with some really nice cars in the $70k's. Selling the C4 and upgrading to a turbo, is probably the best bang for your upgrade dollar... IMHO anyway.

I a 996 or a 987/997? That price is for the 987 engine swap. For a 996, if they will do it (Ruf won't), expect the price to go up due to the custom wiring harness that will be constructed. Bottom line is why would you want to do this anyways?

For $10-20K over the cost of a C4S you could have a turbo of the same year. Putting a GT3 is a 276 lb heavier chassis is just insane. It will NEVER be as fast as a regular GT3.

+1 for LVDell: sell the C4 and buy another car instead.
