Default Roof Transport System

Does anyone know whether or not the roof transport system for the 996 is any good? My 996 is my only car and I simply need additional cargo space. Also, does anyone know whether or not the roof transport system is capable of carrying an extra set of tires/wheels for track days to avoid a mini trailer? Thanks, kilo.

It is great. I use a thule evolution box on it every winter on it. The bars are rock solid, and bolt into the car's roof. I can send you a pic if you want to see. I may even have mine for sale if my cars sells.

I've used the roof transport for my road bike on many occasions. Rock solid at speeds well in excess of the legal speed limits (so I hear). A buddy of mine rigged up an attachment (using Home Depot stuff) to carry two wheel/tires to the track. (he put the 3rd wheel in the back seat and the 4th wheel in the trunk).

I think 4 tires with wheels would be very heavy for the roof!!!

LiveNupe, I bought the roof rack for mountain bikes as well as wheel transportation. Can you post some pics of what your buddy's wheel transport concoction looks like? I think the rack is rated up to 150#'s. Can anyone confirm this?

I intended to take a pic of his car with the tires mounted but got too busy and never got around to it. I e-mailed him this morning asking him to send me a pic of his car with the tires mounted. As soon as he sends it, I'll post it.

My buddy responded and I now have the picture. However, I'm not able to post pictures on the board right now. I'm getting a message indicating that I'm not a current member. If you PM me with your e-mail address, I'll e-mail the pic to you right away. Or, you can wait till I get an answer from the guys who run this board and I'm able to post pix again.

Glad I could help. If you get a chance before I do, post the picture on the forum so others can see it.

Jeff,
What Evolution box do you use 1200, 1600 or 1800?

TIA
