Default Dealer ovefilled oil slightly

My dealer just did an oil change (MY 99 C2) and added a smudge too much oil. Is 3-5mm over the full mark on the dipstick a problem?

I did a search and it seems like I should be OK, there are some threads where people who track their cars overfill to combat wet sump starvation.

Or should I remove the little excess to be safe.

TIA

Very easy fix. Just remove the plastic housing cover for your oil filter cartrdige and you will be able to discard the oil that has collected into the housing. Do this as many times as is needed to get the oil level back to normal.

Any pics of where the cartridge is located?
Is it underneath the car on the rear passenger side? Do I need any special tools?

TIA

You will need either the oil filter cartridge removal tool or very strong grippy hands

The cartridge is a black casing going vertical just inside the wheel housing on the pax side rear. I could take a quick snapshot for you if you like.

Thanks Dell I've located the cartridge, but I think I will need a proper tool as its hard to get any leverage, my car has JRZ coilovers and is very low.

Thanks again

No problem.

The removal tool is a standard european removal tool. Works on ALL of my P-Cars as well as my MB. Of course you can also get one at the dealer.

Here's a picture of what it looks like. Has something like 14 slats on the inside.

If some of the track rats are slightly overfilling and pushing their cars hard , should I be ok in regular street use until the excess burns off?

Thoughts?

You should be fine. As for the overfilling for us track rats, I have never heard of that. Personally I would remove the excess. Not good to have an overfilled system.

If there is way too much oil it can get sucked into the intake. You will know this right away because of the smoke clouds behind you. A small overfill that you have is nothing to worry about.

Next up, you might start complaining about the notorious white smoke on hard acceleration and occasional morning startups...

Did you do anything at all? Or did you just took it for a run and checked it?

If that's all you did, you do know that for an accurate reading,
you have to wait for a while after turning off the engine, before checking the oil level...

Cosmos is spot on. If you just go for a spin, then check, youwill have a lower level since youhave not allowed the oil to drain completely into the sump.

I let her sit for 15 minutes before checking.
