Default Is the RMS problem a thing of the past?

I have noticed in the last year a remarkable decline in the complaint posts about the leaking RMS issue on 996s. Could it be that the last revision of the seal is really working, and RMS leaks is a thing of the past?

I got the new seal over a year and a half ago, and have not had a drip since. What is the consensus?

I hope so. Had my RMS changed under warranty 2 weeks ago with the latest and greatest seal. The service manager said that he hasn't seen one come back since they start using these. What is your dealer saying?

I have an 01 C2 with 65.000 miles. I have no leaks and have never had any. Is it just a matter of time before my RMS starts leaking and has to be replaced ? If so, should I have it replaced if I have any other engine work done, as a precaution? (I am out of warranty).

My guess would be NO! However outside of our Porsches never being 100% potty trained it is really, fo me, not that big of a deal. I had mine replace about 15 months ago with no leaks, the warranty is 24 months so it should leak in about another 9 or so months, ha ha.

Typically, if you do a clutch all you need do is pull the flywheel and you are there. If done carefully, it is a pretty risk free procedure, at least on the older engines I have worked on.

On the other hand, maybe let the sleeping dog lie.

From a 997S perspective: Yeah, as long as yours has been replaced.

No, the rms issue has not been completely resolved. Some 997 owners have had the problem.

I would say yes. I've never actually seen a new style seal leak. Yes the new part number is a 997 number and there have been 997s with leaks but the early 997s were shipped with the old seal so its no surprise at all there were 997s with leaks. The new style seal will fail without a doubt, any seal will, but it being a problem issue is definately a thing of the past.

I got a 997-101-212-00 installed a month ago. The dealer said it was the 7th generation seal!! I hope it's a good one I go off CPO in 12 days.

These threads wear me out. Been driving Porsches for 20 years and have put RMS in all of them. This is nothing new guys Pay for one in a 928...drop the entire rear end and transmission...remove the torque tube..do the RMS and reassemble and align the car. Much more painful than a 996.

P cars leak fluids Get a warranty, handle it or get something else. I own 2 Japenese cars for this reason.

Since Dell is not around today I just thought I would take his place

Merry Christmas everyone
