Default stains/smudges on cab plastic rear window

Hi
The rear window on my cab has developed some little "blemishes" that I can't get out. I've tried various plastic cleaners and polishes but to no avail.
When I bought my car last year the window was perfect and since it's kept in a garage I can't figure where they came from or even which side of the window they're on.
I'd really appreciate any ideas. (other then moving up to a MY02)

Is polyglass basically same as plexus and the other assorted plastic/glass cleaners? I've tried almost every product made and resigned myself to the damn plastic rear window being stained.

When I bought my Cab, the plastic window was clouded so badly, I couldn't even see through it.
I tried Plexus, Meguires plastic polishes and cleaners, etc, and none of these products removed the clouding.
Then a fellow Pcar owner suggested I try the Novus 1-2-3 system.
Took a couple of applications, but got the window to almost new condition.
Try the Novus.

If you can't get it clean, you can replace the plastic window. Any good upholstry shop can do it. I did it on my previous 01-cab cost about $400.00, brand new. The problem that really bothered me were all of the fine skratches that develop while cleaning the window.

To avoid the problem clean your plastic window with Pledge. Never use windex.

Great post...please let me know how that Novus works.

I am lucky as my plastic window is still a 7-8 on a scale of 1-10. Still pretty clear...but I want to keep it that way.

Great info...

I've tried several products similar to the Porsche poly cleaner and while they did make the rest of the window sparkle they didn't touch the stains & smudges. Is the poly cleaner a spray or a paste?

I have a 1999 C2 Cab and the plastic window was completely hazed over. It was so bad that I would not drive with the top up (not much of problem here in California during the summer :-)

I've been planning on getting it replaced either with another plastic window or with a gahh top with the small glass window.

I ran across this thread and decided to give the Novus 1-2-3 product a try.

Before using Novus the window was completely opaque. I couldn't see anything out of the rear view mirror. After using Novus, I can now see out! It's not crystal clear and there are still some hazy spots, but it's a lot better.

So while the Novus system didn't perform any miracles (my window is not like new), it did buy me some time. I will eventually need to get the entire window replaced, but at least I can drive my car with the soft top up.

I think there's still some improvement to be had. It's hard to polish the inside of the window and I didn't do a very good job at it. I think over the next couple weeks I'll apply the product a couple more times and see if I can get rid of some of the remaining haze.

Attached are some before and after pictures.

Looks like you need to get some Raggtopp Cleaner and Protectant to that top!
And yes, additional applications might help. It certainly did with my window. I'll post some pics shortly.

Larry,
My window was just as bad as yours, if not worse.
Here are some pics of my 99 window and top.......
I have had my car for over 3 years though, so I have been caring for the top with Novus for the last 3 years.
These windows need regular maintenance just like anything else.
A couple of days in the hot sun might help your window flatten out and become more pliable as well.

There is a link to Novus in post #4 of this thread.
Or, you could google it for more options.
