This is the most inexpensive/powerful Porsche OBD II tool - ever.
Any diagnostic tool that can do more than the Durametric software costs thousands of dollars.
Give these folks some credit for providing us DIY'ers with a great tool at a reasonable price. The last thing I would want to see is them driven out of business by folks stealing (or cloning) their product.

Dont get your panties in a bunch.
not stealing or cloning. Not looking to rip anyone off. I was asking b/c I saw a cable for sale on Ebay w/o the CD. Seller stated the software is available for DL on the website. After further research I found some threads on knockoff cables so out went the Ebay route. I also read their customer service is excellent so I will buy the genuine product.

I have had the durametric program/hardware for about 4 months. I originally purchased it to turn off the airbag light- worked perfectly. I was very surprised to find various minor fault codes with the durametric programs- these never showed up with my regular obdII scanner. I have been very very pleased with the product and I would definitely recommend it.

This was the first tool/accessory I picked up for the 996 (thanks to Loren's advice for a 60k service on Renntech). It's saved me more than I paid between on trips to the dealer for CEL codes and the DIY 60k mile service.

The cable is where the "value" is - I'm sure if you bought a used cable (like on ebay), you could send it back to Durametrics and have them reset the VIN memory for you. I've found their customer support to be very helpful.
