Default REPLACEMENT KEY ****

Originally, I ordered a special key **** for my P-car. The dealer told me that it does not come with crypted-transmitter. So I ordered an xtra OEM key **** just to have the transmitter. Once, I received both the special key **** and OEM ****, I realized that the special key **** does has the internal transmitter. Now I have xtra transmitter that I don't need.

My local P-dealer reps. do not know sh...t!!!

There is a "911" version of the same key available from Porsche. It's silver and black. You can find it for sale on Suncoast Porsche's website. Google for it. I believe it's $119.95.

Thanks,
Peter

Be aware! Suncoast Porsche sale the key **** housing. It does stated in discription. Call them and be sure. I bought mine at my local P-dealer. I paid $134 with crypted-transmitter built-in.

Are you sure? I got the whole thing including the guts when I purchased from Suncoast. Didn't use them, they're still sitting in the baggy the housing came in. It's not my understanding that Porsche sells just the shell separately.

Caution.

Local Porsche dealer, Barrier of Bellevue, was not able to "mate" the 997 immodilizer key to my 2001 996.

I took my '99 C2 to the dealer today and -among other things- asked for another key. The service manager photocopied my registration and driver's license and said it would be $150-175; he wasn't sure.

We'll see what it is when they present the actual bill. I will post the result.

UPDATE:
OK- I got the result: It's $186 plus a half hour's labor ($65) to fix the broken remote key I have. It's $333 plus a half hour's labor to order another one.

Net:
$249 to repair the broken transmitter on my current key
$398 to get a second key

I declined both.

Without the xtra OEM key head, my total came out to be: $134 Carrera GT head/transmitter, $125 for blank, cutting, and recoding. Total: $259. I know the tech adv. so he didn't charge for the cutting and blank. Normally, it costs $45 xtra (blank/cutting).

The cutting is not expensive here. It is the key head and recoding that cost $$$$. And no locksmith can do it.

I had a similar problem with one of my keys. I tried switching to a new battery; no change. Ended up getting a new key, no problem since.
