Default Xenon headlight?

Are xenon headlights standard on all 996's? If not does anyone know what models they are standard on?

No they are not standard. They were an option. On the Turbos I believe they were standard. They make retro fit kits to put them into the early 996 and 986.

Not standard but a very desirable and aftermarket option.

The Xenons were standard on the 2004 40th anniversary 911.

They were a $1,080.00 option I believe. There are many things about what Porsche considers "options" which surprise me to this day.

Power Seats are optional
Auto Climate control is optional on Caymen
Intermittent wipers optional on Boxster

And then there's my all-time age old beef with all car manufacturers: floor mats are optional.

Thanks,
Peter

People keep paying for them so why would Porsche fit them as standard?
Production cost is not much more than ordinary headlights but ....

Can't say about wipers and climate, but some people do NOT want power seats. For track use they suck, because the race seats don't fit the sliders, and neither do things like sub-belt mount bars. They also weigh more than manual and that's no good on the track either... even if you just use the stock seats, they are higher than manual ones, and you need that room for the helmet clearance if you are over 6' or so...

The contrarian point is that the sunroof is now standard on the 911, EVEN ON THE GT3, which has some folks pretty peeved as well. Only the Cayman has no sunroof, since its roofline doesn't allow for it.

So some things that used to be options are now standard. But stiill not everyone is happy... hehe
