Default DIY? "Side Marker" to "Turn Signal"

Is there a DIY to make the "Side Marker" a "Turn Signal"?

Yes...do an archive search...I saw a post on that subject some time back. I think the guy who posted it also had pictures. The DIY makes the turn signal and the side marker flash opposite each other.

If you have litronics do the splice in the trunk rather than behind the lights.

BTW, is the "Side Marker" a legal US DOT requirement?

Can I just turn the "Side Marker" into a turn signal and just leave it at that?

I wasn't a fan of a amberish side marker on my car at night anyways....

-- EDIT --
Dharn55 : thanks for the link, very good info there; cross referencing that website, with the 996 Technical Manual's wiring diagrams really helped me to understand the whole thing.

But I instead of following that DIY and keep the "side marker" functionality, I think I'll just wire the "side marker" as the "side turn signal" (just like how RoW cars are...); if members are interested, I will post a DIY.

The 996 DO have a "side marker" at the headlamp assembly, but that's probably not enough for DOT, hence, the "side turn signal" on US cars are wired as a "side marker" now.
