Default MAF Sensor

I am curious do you have to disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting the MAF sensor? If you don't will this do any harm?

They say to disconnect the positive terminal before any service on electrical. Positive, not negative.

I doubt its necessary. Car off key out would be sufficient. That's what I have done when I cleaned my MAF.

I didn't disconnect the battery when I replaced my MAF nor did I do it when I removed my intake to clean and oil. I did though, have the car turned off with no key in the ignition.

Thanks guys! Didn't think there was a real need to disconnect the neg. terminal. I think you are safe as long as the key is not in the ignition and on or car running.

Hi all. New to this forum and yes I will post pics of my car shortly on my webpage. My Rennlist website

So I finally decided to either clean the MAF or replace it as I was tired of clearing the CEL once a week or so but when I went to take it off I discovered that it is held on by screws that I do not have a driver for. Can I pick one up at the local autozone or pepboys? What do you call it. I can just see myself trying to describe it to the guy at the counter. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Oscar

Here is the definitive thread on MAF (it's a torx driver T-20). No need to disconnect the battery (although if you do it's the NEG). If you have CEL you should get the codes as it may not be the MAF!!!!

thanks. Just ordered a security bit set. the codes that I am getting consistently is P1123 and P1125. My understanding is that these faults are usually triggered by a faulty MAF.
