When was the last time you replaced your flywheel?

I have 49,000 miles and P dealer said that flywheel was worn and should be replaced. He said it didn't look bad and it had no cracks or bluing, but he seems to think it is best to replace a flywheel every time you do a clutch.

What do you think??

I told him to skip the flywheel

Ask to visually see it. If you have created a groove on it you need to replace it. Only way to know is to see it. If you--or the previous owner(s) if you didn't buy new--ever hover the clutch pedal when driving then very easy to ruin a FW.

I had mine replaced at 50K iles when I had a new clutch put in after VISUALLY inspecting it and seeing the clutch plate groove carved into the FW. Let's attribute that to my wife learning to drive stick

I wish I had time to take a look at it. I live 1 hour from my dealer and for that I have to rely on the mech and service adviser eye's. He didn't state any grooves in the FW.

Funny thing... Every time I ask to speak to the Mech I get the standard reply "out to lunch" or "on vacation"

This is the 3rd high perf sports car that I have owned and with the 2 before I had a total of 3 clutch changes( young and dumb) and never was told that it would be a good idea to replace the flywheel.

I guess porsche service is much more tight in their specs

my brother looked at a 99 C2 with a new flywhee l last month. the current owner got PCNA to pick up the tab for it and he paid for the clutch parts.

the car had about the same mileage as yours.

Very unlikely that a stock flywheel would need replacing. It has plenty of meat on it and can be turned down easily if there are imperfections or signs of burning. Other than a broken spring or 2, not much can damage this part.

Newport Imports tried to get my buddy to replace a clutch and flywheel when the clutch was not even slipping. They wanted him to do it as a preventative measure. Rediculous. By the way, the car is a 2002 with just over 30K on it.

Rediculous is what I'm starting to think

It seems that this dealer has the same preventative measures manual that your buddies dealer had...

My understanding is that Dual Mass Flywheels "can not" be turned down with any accuracy because of the internal springs, at least I could not find anyone here that would take the chance.
