Default Has anyone done the Blue LED conversion for instrument cluster?

On Ebay, they have a kit that coverts both the instrument cluster and the climate control lighting to either white or blue LED's. I am more interested in the blue lighting. Has anyone done this convertion and/or have any pictures? My only concern is that I have the stock radio and there is no way to convert it from the orange to blue lighting.

Darren (mitty) did it and hated it. Couldn't get the lighting levels even. I believe he undid it. Haven't seen him post for a while though.

I like the blue led lights in the new VW's. I don't have an aftermarket radio; stock Becker 220. But, I installed the new Sirius tuner (Streamer GTR) in my dash between the radio and the storage bin. It has blue backlighting so I think changing all the lights to blue would look good. My concerns with kit are: are the blue LED's that come in the kit bright enough and how hard is it to solder the LED's into the climate control unit? Fortunately, the instrument cluster doesn't require any soldering!

I will post pics of my Sirius radio upgrade. It looks and works fantastic.

The lights are bright enough easy......and for like $20 just try it....it'll take you like 20-30 minutes and $20....

I also have done it and love it. I have an alpine unit which has 4 color illumination (one being blue) and looks great. I have the ones for the temp control unit but have not installed yet (due to the soldering involved), I will be sending it in soon ( the company/party selling them will do the work for about $80.00, hopefully they still do, since haven't checked with them for a few months). And as Newport said, only $20. and can return to oem within 30 min., just keep your originals.

wow...for the money, that doesn't seem like you'd have much to lose, esp if you can back off on the inst cluster lights so easily if it doesn't seem to work. I did a custom audio install about 2 months ago with an alpine head unit. I decided that I wanted features and flexibility over cosmetics, and since the latest models are now non-switchable colors (instead I have the bio-lite 3 line display on a single din) I'm stuck with a blue deck. Extremely happy with the system, but sometimes wish the colors were uniform.

Can anyone tell me what search terms I can use to find it on Ebay?

TIA

I like the stock color but I think it looks good if you have a matching head unit. To each his own.
