The cups (MPSC's) are good, and I agree with what's been said about longevity and being able to drive them to the track.

The only downside is that they suck for autocross, because they don't get warmed up fast enough to start sticking. Kumhos or some of the others would be better for that. But if you don't autocross, that's not an issue.

I would no longer contemplate going on the track without track tyres. I use yoko AO48 and they perform much better than street tyres and last much longer under track conditions. When I am driving my pride and joy on the track uninsured I want the best grip possible and IMO that has to be tyres made for that purpose. This is under dry conditions. I avoid the wet.
I have had many a discussion with professional porsche drivers and they all agree that track tyres are a good investment for track days. The other must is high temp brake and clutch fluid.

Track tyres do inspire confidence.

I like the RA1's. Good grip and they last. If you want to save a few bucks get a set of 17" wheels. Comp. sizes in the RA1 17 vs. RA1 18 are about $250 less for a set of 4.

I've got my cups on 17" wheels. The contact patch may be a little smaller, but there's less unsprung weight. And of course, the wheels and the tires both are a lot less $$.
