Default european style mirrors

anybody replaced their outside mirrors with wide angle european style mirrors? (i think they are called convex) ... and it also gets rid of that annoying "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear"

here is what BMW mirrors look like (part #1):

Please stop posting multiple threads on exactly the same question.

Here is the answer I posted in the other thread:

Yeah, I replaced my mirrors with the Porsche european version that has a little dotted line running vertically at about 3/4 of the way out of the mirror. After the line, the mirror curves away slightly to allow you to tilt your mirrors a little further in without creating a blind spot. Very cool easy upgrade.

Is it worth it? Probably not. Is it cool? Oh yeeaahhhh

Yup. Got them at Suncoast

http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...Code=POTE996SS

They reduce the size of the blind spot but the tradeoff is that compared to US spec mirrors, objects appear even further away (but you get used to it). The other thing is that if you want the self dimming and heated aspheric side mirrors, they cost $$$$$. I think they maybe standard equipment on a lot of Euro spec cars (Porsche, BMW, Audi, MB), but not on US bound cars. I consider them invaluable.

sorry dude.

to be honest, i figured nobody would even read a thread titled "Neon lights under my car" -- so i wanted to give it a more correct subject. plus, it was burried so far in the post... it was more of a SmartTOP/RemoteTOP review.

my mirrors are not self-dimming right now, and i do want to replace them with self-dimming. i figured as long as i do it, might as well get aspheric ones.

how do i tell if my mirrors are heated or not? is it standard feature on 2003 C2 cabs?

I'm not 100% but I think heated mirrors are standard equipment. Self dimming and heated mirrors come if you have the optional self dimming rear view mirror. You can install the self dimming rear view mirror later (the wiring is in the dome light), but I have no clue whether you can install self dimming side mirrors later. The heated mirrors have 1 wire, the self dimming heated mirrors have 2 wires. To remove the mirror, adjust the angle of the mirror to one extreme until there is a small gap between the mirror and the housing. Then slide a plastic ruler in and gently pop the mirror off (it snaps in and out).
