Default So how is that new rear seal doing?

Just picked one up today! Thankfully under warranty.

Service advisor says that he has yet to have a car back with a leak using the new seal, but cautioned that they have only had it for 6 months or so.

Fingers and toes are now firmly crossed.

I've only had my new seal for 1,000 km so can't yet.
Though my warrenty is up at the end of July so thats the end of getting it done free.
This is my 3rd seal and each time they have told me that its a new seal and that the new seal should fix it.

Don't want to rain on any one's parade - but doesn't it usually take 8-10,000 miles for the new seals to start leaking?

Chris.

Mine had a leak within 4 months of taking it to the dealership to have it replaced under warranty. The dealership claims their best person did the work, my Indy claims it was leaking when he pulled the tranny. I never saw a leak in my driveway. The indy charged me the price of the seal since they already were doing tranny work.

Had the latest and greatest seal installed this spring. Several thousand miles since. So far, seems OK. Much better than the last one, that dripped almost immediately. But, I'm still looking at this one with a jaundiced eye. There is some dampness/oiliness in the RMS area, but no actual drips. Jury is still out on this one.

To try to make his point that the new part might actaully be holding the oil on the inside of the engine, the service advisor told me that he had been having some replaced seals fail again in 3 to 4 months.

Too soon to tell, of course. At least no one is jumping in talking about failures. Perhaps there is hope after all.

Does anybody have the part# for the new seal? I had had my rms and intermediate shaft seal replaced a couple weeks ago by ASG. I will keep everyone posted.

BTW. thumbs up to ASG in Fairfax VA for an honest price and excellent customer service. They took the time out to show me what was going on, and gave me a lot of information. The guys there are very nice, and even made suggestions on how to save a few bucks.

The "new" seal has the 997 P/N the others were 993 or 996 P/N's. I've had the new one, number 3, in since spring with no hint of leaking. I've been watching it very closely

For my future financial planning, would you share what that honest price was?

I had an intermediate seal replaced about 11-12 months ago and have put around 10,000 miles on since then. So far it's doing okay. Unknown as to which version was used.
Cost at a local Porsche independent was previously quoted at $750 for the seal+labor (last year) but I was having other work done so I didn't break it down line-by-line.
