996 Cab Stereo Upgrades
I've been searching for some suggestions for upgrading my 996's audio, without submitting to a salesperson at an audio store. Anyone do some good uprgades? I'd prefer to have the OEM head unit, but wouldn't rule out aftermarket. More concerned with quality but rock's better loud. Also- anyone know the standard speaker sizes, and number of them? Thanks. JOE

It's a 99. Std set-up, cass. with 6-disc. Sound quality is poor by any standard. My 2001 Yukon's Delco is far better! I'm capable of doing most installation. So I'll probably take suggestions and shop out components. Thanks!!

Burning Brakes
I am in the process of doing it right now. Focal speakers are generally regarded as the best sounding in these cars. Audison amps are generally regarded as the best sounding in these cars. I got the Focal 165 V3E they are a 3way seperate system with a 6.5" door mid bass speaker, 4inch mid, and 1 inch tweeter. I have an Audison LRX300.4 driving the fronts and to drive the sub which is a custom box with a JL Audio 8w3 sub in it. Rear speakers are stock, but I am changing them to the Focal Coax speakers. I would suggest a head unit change as well....If you want a stock look, Go with the Nakamichi, it looks very stock and sounds excellent. I went with Kenwood double Din size with Nav, and all the bells and whistles.

So many choices... You mention custom box for subs, is it a coupe? Any additional components required for 3-way, crossovers, ect.? Love to see some pics. I'd like to have nav. It would just be something to play with, as this is just a 'round town, show up and look good car. Can't see LCD too well with the top down anyway, right? Wink, wink. Nod, nod. Nudge, nudge. Say no more..

newport,
like you i have a small sub in the footwell, for info i'm about to fit an pioneer 8" shallow mounted sub behind the rear backrests.
i'll report on sound quality once fitted.
