Default second gear -- help!!

My stick shift (very) occasionally pops out of second gear (only) for no reason. It does when I'm not on the gas but the clutch is still engaged.

Has anyone seen this problem? Does anyone have thoughts what might be the cause?

Need more info...model, year? Any mods (like ssk)? There have been a number of reported problems concerning second gear popping out. Could go from adjustment of the shifter to replacing the tranny.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think your tranny is going (syncros are known to be a problem). Hopefully you have an extended warranty. Porsche was covering this under warranty. I hope I'm wrong.

You may have a shifter adjustment problem, since it is cable driven it sometime can go out of adjustment and cause the shifter action not to positively engage the gear at the transmission end. The other possible problem could be a bent shift fork. The later require a transmission tear down.

So the first thing you should do is to make sure the shifter adjustment is correct, I believe there is a gague tool the dealer use to ensure the adjusment. And then go from there.

exact same thing happened to me. long story short, I have a new tranny now. It's apparently a common problem.

I have the same problem, but it is with 6th gear (figure that one, lol).
It WILL NOT stay in 6th if ANY power is applied.......but I found a tranny for
$1000 that is waiting to be put in as it can still be driven as is.

PowerHaus has a syncro upgrade kit that will make it more durable. The factory trans are weak in this area.

I took the car in to the dealer (still under warranty) and they said they couldn't "reproduce" the problem. Since its an after-market warranty, they said they have to be able to reproduce it in order for it to be covered. Any suggestions on they should be looking for?

Thanks in advance!!
