I think the ride height is too high to be a real GT3 as well.

So heres a question, Does a GT-3 have a third brake light like the car in the photo? And while we're at it is the third brake light generally ROW, North America or just USA?

Yes, the real GT3 has a third brake light in the engine cover. What a real GT3 doesn't have is those extra skirts behind the rear wheels nor the black bumpettes around the license plate (this is a US only feature).

Since we're on the GT3 topic, has the car been dropped from production ? Check out the different ROW National Sites for Porsche AG, (England,Germany, Aus)and look at the 911 model lineup in the car configurator. no GT3.

Yes, 2000 was the last model year for street GT3's. With the TT, PAG no longer felt it was necessary to make the GT3 available and they had a shortage of engines available since the GT3, GT2, and TT share the same basic engine. The GT3 Cup and the GT3 RS are both still available in 2002 models for track use only.

Hmm.. That means that one more avenue for import into the US opens up. Street GT3 now becomes eligible for 'Show and Race' or whatever it is, limits you to 2500 miles/year. Everyone I've spoken to who has ever driven a GT3 absolutely raves about the car.

I am just curious that so many peopel are enamored with the gt3 as i am as well. Has neone test drove one and my main curiosity is how does it sound. If you could compare that to the sound of say a ferrari 355/360 how would u discern between the two. I've read many magazines ie european/excellence but rather hear it from someone who actually driven one. Thanks for your time.

There is a GT3 motor for sale on ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...870992&r=0&t=0

If you go there, there is a link to a sound clip which is supposedly a GT3's engine. Nothing like a Ferrari but still a lot better than any other street 996.

A real GT-3 also has the center air vent in the front damn open. the one in the pic is closed, therefore it is a regular 996.

This motor wouldn't do anyone (other than another GT3 owner) any good without a GT3 transmission. The motor won't work with a stock 996 tranny. They also claim 370HP but I don't think that was the rating for the 2000 car. I think 370 was for either the 2001 or 2002 Super Cup engines.

I also believe that the wiring harness and ECU are different. This is not a bolt-in upgrade for the 996.
