fuel pump relay- favor please
Could I get someone to do me a favor? This weekend my car was not running right after having been diagnosed and tinkered with (to no avail) at the dealer for two days. My appeal is for someone to drive their car in a "spirited" manner and to reach up under the dash and touch the fuel pump relay to see if it is hot. The relay is above the fuse box which is located on the left footwell wall. The relay is the gray one in the second row from the bottom. It is the second one from the left on my '99. It has a picture of a diagram on the cover. No other relay is even warm on my car. This one is very warm.
Dealer says I have a lean running condition which is just inside the acceptable parameters. I am wondering whether this relay may be bad or maybe it's a fuel pump problem. O2 sensors and fuel filter have been replaced. I don't know what else it could be.
The symptoms are extreme hesitation under anything more than half throttle, will hardly idle when cold and even when sitting, if I rev it using more than 1/2 throttle, it balks severely.
Thanks in advance.

I went back to look again and found it to be a very light gray with pink markings of the diagram. It does not have the number 53 on it like the others of similar size. The part number on the relay is 996.615.101.00
Loren, you are right about it being the third position from the left. I do not have a relay in the leftmost receptacle. I didn't have a flashlight earlier.

Well John-took it for a robust rev limiter kinda drive for 20 minutes and check the relay(I believe the relay looks like the longest one of the other relays) and it is warm. I have no problems that you have (x my fingers). Hope that helps ya. Regards. Mike

Just recieved and installed the new relay. That was definitely not the problem. I have no idea. Guess I'll schedule another trip to the dealer. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
