Unhappy Fuel pump picture... anyone??!!

I got the fuel pump fedex from usa just now.. I wont be able to fix it till weekend so i want to ask anyone who saw it, is it contained in a white plastic housing with a circular strainer in the bottom.. The container is very light and is about 2 litres in volume (?).. looks like a fridge water container! The pump itself is embeded inside and has one electric plug and two fuel hoses..

Could this be the right pump, anyone got a picture of it by any chance?!

*paid $500 and it's the last thing i've to install before letting go to new owner, that's why am wondering!*

waz,

When you pull yours out, tell me how your screen looks. I am having a fuel delivery problem. I have replaced the fuel filter with no improvement. My relay is very hot which may mean the fuel pump is stressing due to debris in the tank.? Can you take pics of the job?

Thanks

Thanks. I was wondering, how did you know your fuel pump was the problem? Did it fail all at once? Did an error code come up on the diagnostics? My dealer has been no help at all on my problem other than to tell me I am running lean. They have no idea on what is causing the significant hesitation problem.

I will try the new relay today and then decide whether to try a fuel pump if the relay does not solve the problem. I hate throwing money away in hopes of diagnosing a problem.

John,

I had a previous post on my pump problem.. I first noticed a loud whinning noise that is coming from the wheel arches.. Obviously i understand now since the pump is embebded and screwed into the tank and will transfer noises thru the tank to the chassis to the arches.

NOTE: THE NOISE ALWAYS STARTED WHEN THE ENGINE RUNS MORE THAN 30 MINUTES, OTHERWISE IT WAS SILENT.

You know when you sometimes turn your car and the fuel pump pressurizes the system for a second and then stops.. That is how i knew it was surely the pump whining and nothing else.

Ok, sorry for no pics, but couldnt find a digicam.. But it is no different from Loren's diagram.

I removed the battery, unscrewed (hitting with a hammer!) the top closure, removed (hardly!) the fuel guage and then unscrewed the pump from the tank base. The old pump lower filter circular skin was removed.

I then fitted the new one and replaced everything. The car jerked at the start and then all was well.. I am just coming from a very rough 30 minutes run and the car is just about fine, there is no more noises.. I didnt get any check engine *yet* and the car is pulling very hard..

The only thing is that the temperature is still hitting very close to the white mark after the 80deg..

Very easy operation.

TO answer your questions:

1) it didnt fail suddenly and the car was normal but only noise very loud like a moulinex (!) after 30 minutes of operation.

2) No hesitation though the car is heating more than normal, up to the mark after the 80deg

2) Frequent check engine lights, but i dont have a dealer here and i dont have OBD software.. Couldnt guess if it's low pump pressure.

Thanks. Your description was as helpful as pics would be. I don't hear the same thing so I don't know. I am going to schedule in at another dealer for a second opinion. Thanks again.

Well, limited to my knowledge in Nigeria, what they do here to save the money of the relay (and most ppl steal it from the cars!!) is that they connect the pump continuously on the battery..

Now, maybe you could try this for just a while to make sure it's no pump problem.. If the hesitation goes away, then it's your relay..
