Quote: How do they install the new plastic window? Is it glued or stitched in?
Yes both glue and stitch....And the cost to do this is FAR less than a new top. About $500 total vs about $2500 for total top replacement with the glass window...If you wanna go a step further you can get a new style 02+ top with factory glass window and frame for about $3000, plus the labor to install....

Sorry to hear about the top, I have a 2000 Cab and the top is in near perfect condition but the rear window was really sun damaged. I took it to the local upholstery shop aabout 2-weeks ago and got a replacement plastic rear window for $250 (cheap) and it looks great and works well. It's glued and double stiched, I'll have to see how it does over time but for the money I thought it was worth the shot.

Yves,

Who did the installation for you?

Who did the installation for you?
Tim's Auto Upholstry in Duluth. They do all Ferrari tops in Georgia and have solid experience with Porsche. Don't really think that they did anything wrong.

The top just ... gave up

I won't speculate as to what's gonna happen next. I do know that the installer and GAHH's lead technician (Jack) are going to talk tomorrow.

For the time being I'll give everybody the benefit of the doubt.
If they try to mess with me...I am an attorney

Is it separating in the same spot as your original top?

one thing i noticed on my 01 cab top.

there are some cloud on the edge of each sde of the platic back window.
upon further inspection when closing/openning the top, i found it caused by the way the window is folded.

it might have something to do with your case.

please keep us updated, i am saving money now for my glass window.

Update

I was contacted by GAHH today (Jack - one of their lead technicians). He was very friendly and apologetic. So far they have sold 12 of the new tops. Mine is the first one with a problem.
The pictures really helped out. He *thinks* that it has something to do with the bonding process between the glass window and the canvas. They've had several issues when they first made the Boxter top with the glass window. He thinks that not enough of the bonding compound was used on my specific top.

The car needs to go back to the installer on Wednesday, they will remove the top and overnight it to California. After inspection (and confirmation that not ALL tops have been affected by a production issue), GAHH will send a new top to my installer.
The whole turnaround process will take about a week.
Luckily I'm leaving town on Wednesday and the car should be ready when I come back from my business trip. What a hassle. I'm really taking one for the team now.
You guys owe me !

Yeah a real hassle...they should pre ship a top to the installer so you dont have to wait for them to "inspect" it....

i'm glad it will work out for you. i agree they should just ship one out but since the shop isn't theirs, i can understand they don't want to get screwed by customer.

Actually, if you'll read what Yves wrote, you'll notice that Gahh wants to verify that the problem is not something that will be endemic to all of their tops. No sense sending him a new top that will 'unbond' again.

Yves, by the way, when it's set up correctly on your return, would you mind snapping some photos from the rear so we can all gauge the size of the window? Cheers.
