Default 19" Carrera S Alloys on 996?

Anyone got any nice shots of the new 19" Carrera S wheels from the 997, fitted to a 996?

Just wondering how this looks, whether there are any offset issues, and how the ride height looks at stock?

Any help much apprecaited.

Chris.

They will look a little funny at the stock ride height....no offset issues except the fronts have more negative offset so they are inside the fender by about 1/4" more than the 996 wheels...the rears have more rubber as they are 11" wide instead of 10, but the extra inche is mostly on the inside of the wheel so it fits perfectly. No rubbing issues here and my car is VERY low.

Are these lighter than the turbo hollow spokes?

I've been wondering what the weight is also, good question.

In terms of a pic, you'll find a couple if you search for those wheels in ebay.

So - I guess I answered my own Question today

Quick trip up to LA to get them fitted - Toyo T1R in 235/35/19 and 315/25/19

Looks great, rides really well.

Nice and firmly planted on the road, without feeling harsh.

And the annoying road noise from the Michelins is gone!

Really love the updated look, and I already prefer the feel of the car.

Wooooooo Hoooooooooo!

Chris.

From Wheel Dynamics in LA

Nice guys, love their Porsches and love their wheels.

They sell online direct, via EBAY, and from their store in LA.

Re: wheel dynamics

Only problem is that these guys sell COPIES. Personally, I wouldn't purchase knock-offs. I agree, they look good and the price is right, but I would be concerned about long term quality and reliability as well as the weight of knock-offs (they claim they are "ALMOST" as light as the originals). Not to mention anybody can claim they are TUV certified, etc, etc, etc,.

Yep they do - and they also sell originals.

In this case these are Porsche originals - taken from a new car that had a wheel swap.

Porsche part number inside, and size and offset stamped either side of the valve stem - that's a quick easy way to check - the copies have no Porsche part number inside, and no size and offset showing on the rim.

If you buy copies - you have to make your own choice as to whther you think the saving is worth it.

Personally, I think Porsche overchanrge for their wheels - so the copy is a more realistic price.

As to whether they are as good - no way to tell other than buying them.

Interestingly enough - even the originals of these Porsche wheels are made by more than one manufacturer for Porsche.

Ronal and BBS both manufacture this 19" wheel for Porsche, and there are differences between them regarding quality.

BBS seems to be more 'fragile', and dealers have had them returned with rim damage from rough road surfaces.

Not such an issue with the Ronal versions.

So even if you buy 'original' - you don't really know what you're getting.

If they are Genuine Take-Offs from a P-Car then that is a different story. I bought my 02 lightwieghts from Suncoast (FL) as take-offs for $2200 and they had ZERO miles on them AND came with the new rubber as well. I bought my 18" Turbo (Cayenne) wheels with new rubber from my local dealer as take-offs for $1500. It is the ONLY way I would buy wheels. I do NOT trust the crap that is sold on eBay.

Hi Chris,
Looks great! Quick question, did you use any spacers in the rear? My Bro-in-law has theses on his new 997S Cab, so if one day he upgrades to something else (doesn't hurt to dream :-) then I can get these for my 996.
Thanks,
