Arrow PCM Software Update

For those interested the 2003.1 PCM software/Navigation map update is available from NavTech. Not sure what changes/updates were made as I just received mine today. Their number is 1-888-628-6277.

Just talked to them- the new maps for my area (Northwest Indiana) are no better. They still show a sea of green for my town and only depict major highways. The guy I spoke to said that yet another system upgrade will happen in another year. That one will be complete for the lower 48 states and include every street and highway. It's hard to imagine that the same company does the data for Lincoln, which is far better in the same callendar year (2002 in my case). AS

Unhappy

Same here . . .I am in Northeast Pennsylvania and the coverage is dismal -- major highways only. I had an Infinity DVD navigation prior to that in my 911 and it put the Porsche's to shame . . .

IS THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM FOR THE PCM II A BETTER AND MORE ACCURATE VERSION? IS THE COMPANY THAT DOES THE MAPPING A DIFFERENT ONE?

PCM2 is significantly better. The data comes from the same company (NavTech).

It's hard to get a consistent answer from Navtech. Previously, I was told that the amount of Navtech data was determined by what the manufacturer bought from them, and further limited by the assertion that Navtech uses only data which it has confirmed by OVER-THE-ROAD confirmation. They do state that they do Lincoln, which in the same calendar year is much much better than Porsche. During a recent conversation, it was asserted that the difference is due to a lag in "update" dates. That makes no sense since the 2003 Porsche update is still inferior to the 02 Lincoln.
However, it now appears that they are buying data which will be merged into theirs. Therefore, if they keep their word, it should be usable in one more year.

I hope Porsche resolves these issues with Navtech beacuse so far for me PCM is a very expensive and worthless option . . .

Here is what I was just told. An update was released about a month ago for the PCM1 system {which they call the Siemens system}. This update was 2003.1. Like others have commented, for my area very few cities were updated. The Rep. stated this was due to the coverage that was available at the time. The Rep. thought full coverage would be available for the next map update. But, to date, there is no update planned. {maybe because they just released an update, or maybe because there will be no more updates ... who knows?}

An update for the PCM2 system {which they call the Harmen Becker system} was released in October of 2002. This update was 2002.1. There is a new update planned for October of 2003.

I agree with others that this system is very disappointing and NOT worth the money I paid. I should have stuck with the Garmin that has perfect coverage for less than 1/4 the price!
