Question Jack stand recommendations?

My 996 is one year old this month and I want to pull the wheels to give them a full cleaning/polish. I don't have any jack stands or special jacks for supporting the car while the wheel is off the car. Any recommendations on the safest stand or jack to use while cleaning the wheel?

Thanks for the input,
Jim

It's the type of product that's easy to judge just by looking at various models at a local store. I'd look for clean casting and maybe a good country of origin to get an assurance that the foundry work is good.

In terms of safety - never trust any jack or jack stand. I always slide something under the A arm that can't fail - like a mounted tire or cinder block - especially if you're going under the car.

Anyone know where to get jack covers or what to use between the jack stand and the car, and the jack and the car? I have heard of wood, and hockey pucks and have seen how someone made a need machined deal but isn't there something of plastic? I have seen the adapter for the jack, but who makes it. I swore I saw it for the stands also, both plastic and yellow, but again who and how much? thanks. Sean

Aluminum jack plate. Part # AJR 559 149 02. $75.95 + S&H. Total $84.45. Call AJ USA Inc. @ 1 800 877.1911. THIS IS A DISCOUNTED PRICE AND YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR IT, PROBABLY THE INTENET PRICE. THE CATALOG PRICE IS $83.95. This particulat part # is for a Boxster, ask for the 996 plate when you call. These are expensive but well worth the price.

wow that is really pricey. I think because of the infrequent amount of use I will go with a couple of 2x4's! Thanks though!
