Your right on Nick. The great thing about a good design, like any 911 is the fact that it makes an overall statement. Elements blend in smoothly front to back. Sure you could point out differences between models, but each model has it's forms beautifully integrated to make that single statement. The new BMWs totally lack that cohesive flow of design elements from front to back-I just don't get it. I used to be a big Bimmer fan-not any more.

That new 5 Series is aweful looking in the last Autoweek. Why does Bangle have to f#%k everything up.

I know. Just a funny FYI:
Since I owned a 7, I still get stuff in the mail from BMW. I just got a letter from the BMW NA marketing guy telling me how the new 7 series is a huge hit, selling more in this past year than any other year for the 7 series. The bizarre thing is that I also heard that after the Geneva show, they went back to start a "crash" re-design of the car because of the flak....

I agree. The new 5 is a huge disappointment.

He ought to change his name to Chris Bungled.

My wife has an 01 530iA with Sport. I think we'll keep it a while.

This past year was a pretty big one for lease expiration industry-wide, I believe, which may be propping up the 7-series a little in the short run as they roll over. And it isn't as though it's poorly engineered, although getting way too big and the V12 is basically a limo now.

I have a feeling the new Audi A8 could gain some share in the category once it comes, at least in the U.S. where it never caught on too much in the past. 4WD and remains just about 4000lb which is more like E Class or 5 Series in weight.

In person, but not pictures, I actually do think the Z4 works. But despite prudently taking less risk than on the 7, the 5 looks something like a Subaru to me. Obviously the 6 just makes me sad, and probably carries forward the "looks like a fish, moves like a fish, turns like a cow" thing from the 8.

I saw Bangle's styling approach described as "glory or death" once, about right.
