Man, I wouldn't know for sure since I don't know how intrusive or not is the T/C of non-PSM 996's but I would probably bet you would be faster most of the time with the T/C OFF.
I have tried the T/C on BMW and Merc and just when you let off the cluth, you can feel how the T/C overdoes it when its reduces your throttle input so as not to spin the tires and kind of "stalls", but with Porsche you never now, they probably tunned the T/C is just right for a quick start.
Maybe some Tip drivers can comment on this since its much easier for them (and safer for the cluth/trans) to take off and are more versed.
Today a yellow mass transport bus (so many of them here..) was blocking my way.. I was able to sneek away from the side and was furiously angry beyond control.. I floored 7k on 1st, and dropped the clutch.. I've never done that but i know for sure the car bounced like a slingshot.. never felt so much thrust before!
I guess i'll wait for the Gtech from Fadz to make some tryouts!
So let me get this straight. You have raced sportbikes to 270km/h in highway traffic, you rewarded the local nigerians with donughts in your new S02's, and now you practicing drop-cluth take offs... And you're calling me crazy?
Did you have the T/C ON? did you feel any lag from the T/C?
Next time take care of the bus with the CATERPILLAR 966
Carlos you sure know how to intimidate someone!! Call me cruel opportunistic or undergrown-brain child, but am simply doing what am not forbidden to do here..
It was with T/C off and that was the first snappy drop-clutch i ever did on the car. I guess you have realized that i drive this car quite rough but the pickup without T/C felt explosive compared to other starts with T/C on. The car was quivering like a snake for over 100m! Kinda brought my old 82'323i memories, but with a lot of real thrust!
Usually my T/C is always on, my starts are on 3~4k with a near drop clutch. The T/C engages the car in reducing the throttle, i can feel it as a very annnoying reduction in power. Very boring really, but very safe for the SO2's as well!

It's the equivalent of the PSM in your C4S.
And my advice, don't try this with your AWD unless you're in the wet. The friction resitance provided by four wheels are much greater than two wheels driving the car, that will work out your clutch much harder.
