I ordered front replacement pads for the 996. The salesperson asked me if I had crossdrilled rotors, and I said "yes". What I got was a set of pads with Porsche's catalog number listed above. The footprint of the pads is similar, so are the openings for the pin, but, there are 2 aluminum ***** on these new pads. I searched our forums here but couldn't get info on the new pads. Would someone who has info on catalog numbers kindly tell me if I was sent wrong pads? I wish there was a 24 hour number to call, but being that it's Sunday, no one's home. I guess I could take the whole thing apart myself tonight, but it's such a pain to put everything back if it's the wrong one. I appreciate anyone's input. Hope your Sunday wasn't as drenched as ours was.

My factory pads had a **** on them but my factory replacements, and the Pagid orange do not! It has not seemed to make any difference either on the street or the track!

Arthur,
This must be something new, as the part number doesn't show in my version of PET, which is only current through 2001.
If the two aluminum ***** you are refering to are attached to a black plastic plate that is glued to the outside of each pad, then Roger is right. It seems Porsche has shipped you a set of pads with the vibration dampers already attached. The pads and dampers used to come separately, so that the pads could be replaced without taking off the calipers.
The only way to get the pads on if the dampers are already attached is to remove the calipers, because those aluminum ***** fit into receesed holes in the pistons. This is not too hard of a job if you have the right tools but more complicated than just changing the pads. Don't know why Porsche would have made this change.
Just for reference, the front pads are part number 996.351.939.16 and the front dampers are 996.351.088.01 if you want to order them individually.
