Post Exhaust Tip color

This may have been discussed...I couldn't find anything, so here goes..

The inside of my tips are orange colored. Almost like rust. All my other cars, this is my first Pcar, inside the tips is usually black with soot(probably spelled wrong).

Anyway, is that a normal color for the inside of the tips. When I rub it it's like a orange soot opposed to black or gray.

That sounds like the car has had some xylene-based octane booster (like 104+) in it, it leaves a residue similar to what you describe. If so, that is all through the engine, not just in the tips.

Hmmmm...I'll ask the original owner if he dabbled in Octane boosters.

Thanks...Phattey
