I've done some searching and still a little confused. I have the cdr-220 head unit and I'm interested in upgrading to a sirius/ipod aftermarket head unit. I ordered the Alpine 9857 head unit and some 4" MB Quartz for the dash.

I don't think I have the HiFi option so should I assume that the only amplifier is off of the current head unit? Or is there still an an amp?

I was also interested in swapping out the door speakers for higher quality lows, but the tech I spoke to said that these speakers are more than likely run off an OEM amplifier and would require buying a new aftermarket AMP in addition to the door speakers? At this time, budget does not allow to purchase the new amp, plus door speakers and labor.

Does this info sound accurate? I figured I can always upgrade further. As of right now I have an Alpine 9857 (with ipod connectivity and Sirius module) and the MB Quartz dash speakers on the way. Ultimately the rest of the speakers NEED to go, but I'm not ready to drop down the coin for a new amp.

any help would be appreciated.

 

My 1999 came with the tape player with CD changer in trunk. I would like to also be able to have CD choice in the car. Are you interested in selling your CDR-220? How much?

if you have door spkrs, you have hifi. the amp is in the front trunk.door spkr replacement require door panel removal which isn't too hard but you can check renntech.org for dyi. replacing the amp will yield better sound than spkr alone. it's another few hundred.
