Post Frightening Experience..

So there I come risking my life with over 10 hours of flight all the way from Lagos to Dubai to find am even faced with more danger:

Fadi decides to take the '02-C4S-6sp out and there we meet with Khaled in his '02-C4-tip and there they start the battle of the titans..

The cars happen to be equally performant and we really couldnt find an advantage in one over the other.. Just that Khaled manages somehow to launch the C4 in the most admiring way (from 100km/hr starts), I've only seen high end bikes launch so fast it's so funny when you see it from the other car.. The tip also is advantageous at high speeds and gear changes but the C4S has its edge on being more flexible in gear change..

All was well and controlled till they both decided to race-exit a service lane with quite a big radius and long stretch,,, it happened at 180km/hr and we really sensed the C4S (i was in it that time) had reached its optimum grip in lateral cornering, over 20 seconds of near 1g lateral grip made me lose my senses.. Apart from my bike accident back in '94 that put me 6 months in hospital and having been thru civil wars in Beirut and Lagos for countless years, there has not been any frightening experience I could describe such as this service bridge over pass...

Truly Yours,

Waz
..Damn 996's so expensive here! I'll get one eventually!

I would have loved to be there and ride with you guys but be careful guys at the cornering limit at 180km/h all you need is an unleveled expansion joint (we have many here due to the bridges because its a mountanous area) and your off

What are you guys doing in Dubai?

My family is from there.

I may be over there this fall.

That place needs a race track.

They really should. It would certainly be appropriate.

However, the GP will be in Bahrain.

There is much motorsport fervor in the UAE, as well as the money to facilitate they're ambitions.

Waz - you'd better send in a note from your dealer, a window sticker, the third page of your last 966 manual, and the 12th didget of the number that is stamped into the 996's rear lateral thjingamajig. And we'll want to make sure you've earned your Porsches as well...

- Just kidding of course - we know your story...

i had posted only a few times asking for owners experience, as i had just purchased a new 996 and was unfamiliar with porsche. waz replied quickly, and on a number of occassions. usually with comments that were not helpful. now i see why. of course those who have worked as mechanics, or on race teams would be valuable sources of information, but the ramblings of poseurs does little to promote the site, and more often than not could result in bad info being passed. but, it's a free country.

groberts - how's the "thumping sound" issue coming along?

Were any of the dozen, very thoughtful, suggestions that Waz offered helpful to you? I expect they were - because - surprise - he has been and will again be (after settling down from his international relocation last week) a porsche owner.

Of course, I agree with P-Zen completely - everybody's welcome - we can use all the people we can in this forum to solve newbie "thumping" problems!

Groberts, your new here and don't know the members of the forum yet so I'll cut you some slack. But FYI Waz has just recently sold his 996 since he just moved to a different country. Replies in the forum are about much more than strict tecnical info (not everyone here is an engeneer or profesional porsche driver), as long as the replies are respectful as Waz always has been.

Thanks to members like Waz (which also posts helpful info too... you haven't) this forum is not only great for info but also entertaining and fun. So stick around a little longer before you make any erroneous assumptions about deared members like Waz.

If you post a question and you don't find in a reply what you were looking for or helpful, just scroll to the next reply, I hope you understand that the replies are not exclusively for you even though you started the post, but also for the other members who may find that reply interesting that also read the threads.

I have followd Waz's posts since he joined and I'm very glad he did, thats why I'm saying all this that you have got the wrong impression so start again

the burning rubber smell, the thump upon stopping, the creaking from passenger rear window, the zap sound out of the bose system, the occassionally unresponsive keyless entry, and others, all persist. but, as an owner/fan of ducati's i'm accustomed to my toys having a personality. my purchase was based on an admiration of the design (much like the approach of ducati) and not with an expectation of a finish like a rolls royce. my 996 is silver with black leather. man trans. and no phone or gps crap. guess i should have waited for the release of the gt3 though, more of the type of model i was looking for. most of the responses i have heard have been helpful, perhaps i'm not accustomed to arab humor.

Rolls Royce is not exactly known for keeping together well. My father has a 2002. It's runs like a piece of crap. Looks nice, however.

Bose system? When did Porsche do that?

Arab Humor?

man, you ought to get out more.
