Default Alarm Question - please help

Have an '04 C4S. Central locking works, but when I lock the car using either the key or the fob (single or double click on the key), the alarm sounds if I don't start the car in around 20 sec or less. Checked the Renntech DIY with no luck. Any suggestions? It's embarrassing to have this happening constantly.

Thanks - Phil

Assuming that your '04 works the same as an '02, if the car "locks" fine with the fob without blipping the horn at you (meaning something has been left open, like the glove box, boot, armrest, or engine lid), then your alarm should be set and ready. Is the little red light blinking on the dash after arming?

After 20 seconds, it alarms, correct? Perhaps you have a faulty infrared sensor in the headliner above the rearview mirror that is setting the alarm off after everything has been "locked" down.

Try cleaning the sensor lenses and see if that helps.

It's likely not the sensors in the glove box, boot, armrest, doors, or engine lid since you're able to arm the system. IIRC, the infrared sensors are not activated until the car is locked down.

Cheers

do you mean unlock the car? why would you start the car after you locked it?

usually to reset the key fob (after the week of inactivity), you open the car and then press the key fob. this will reset it.

Sorry for the confusion - yes, I meant unlock the car. After around 20 secs, alarm goes off.
