T/Tail on C2, Looks "GREAT"
Just finishing a little project. '99 Cab w/Techart Frt spoilers,Aero package OEM rocker skirts, Champ 19" chrome rims,Fabspeed muffler by pass pipes and yes, a factory, fully operateing 996 Turbo Tail. Silver on Blk with Blk top.
I have just finished the final steps in fabricating a factory TURBO TAIL to fit a regular 1999 996 C2 narrow body Cab. The full 2 stage tail has been designed so all quarter/lid gaps are perfect. Maintains OEM lid underside duct & cooling fan equipment. Wire harness "plug & play" will allow all OEM switches and drive pumps to operate the rear wing as factory.Cab top operates with no tail interference. Only final mod that is to be finished soon is the air box. After installing all the TURBO TAIL rams in the deck lid, the Rt rear ram contacts the top of the air box. This stops the lid from latching. I have purchased the new K&N cold air intake system and hope this will allow more room in the engine compartment to close & latch the lid w/out the tail rams contacting any other parts. This tail should look great once completed.

Have to maintain stock lid for proper fit, latches, etc. Attach outer turbo tail shell to stock lid frame. Weld reinforcements to add support @ rams and add second strut to support additional weight when tail is opened. Took 3 months and 1 stock lid with 1 turbo tail to fab up.

I know. The only thing with the A/M tails are they do noy fit as nice & they are a none functional tail. No raising or lowering wing w/speed control. They are in a stationary postition. The car is going to stay a narrow body.

If you could. I am thinking of offering this tail to clients that what some tricked parts but want to stay with factory equipment. I think the turbo tail is still the best looking around for a 996 cab.

All factory PORSCHE parts so I figure that if I need to replace anything down the road (ie ram, wire harness clips, fan, mesh,etc....) I can order from a dealer or use Rennlist to locate the proper OEM part. Can not say that about many A/M tails.

Question....Does the 996 Turbo Cab and Coupe use the same tail? Reason why I ask, is I would think the 996 Turbo cab would have a completely different decklid....if so it seems like that would be an easier fit....

996 Turbo cab & turbo coupe have the same tail. The turbo cab/coupe tail is larger then the C2/C4 (narrow body) cab deck lid opening. Any 996 turbo tail is longer and wider then a narrow body engine bay opening. Also , the latch is located in a different location on the underside of lid. Nothing lines up.
