I just changed my front pads after 36K miles (2000 C2, 3 DE's so far). No rotor wear to speak of. If you're on your 3rd set of pads at 12K miles, sounds like you're having a LOT more fun than I am!
I'd expect the rotors to need replacement after that...

With all due respect to your time, as it refers to your job, life, family, etc, - Why don't you just go get some spiffy rotors and pads from one of the myriad of performance shops for the 996 and sit down on the ground one day with a jack and some simple tools and do it yourself?

This will indeed be less than 700 dollars, and you could get some nice pagids. I do not suggest Porterfields, as they are n ot measured correctly to most Bembos, and click back and forth.

Simply trying to open your horizons.

ON the other note, to be told that an oil leak in a 12k mile Porsche is "fine" or "normal" is a bit flustering.
The only reason I see to buy a NEW Porsche, when so many used ones are so close in performance and quality, is the WARRANTEE. If that is no longer a benefit, Porsche is in trouble, because thier products usually last so long.

Press the leak issue, but the rotor thing is subjective.

Thanks, all, for the input. Yes, I am having a lot of fun with this car, it is far from a garage queen. I don't mind doing some wrenching, so after I dig around the tech areas for a while I'll post a request for input on changing rotors to fill in any gaps. Thanks again, Michael <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
