Post 996 60K Mile service

In the next couple of weeks, I will be approaching 60K miles on my '99 996. I contacted the dealer in Atlanta and was told that this service will cost @ $1,000. Is this about right? I contacted one dealership in South Florida and was told @ $625. What gives? The parts are the same and the labor rate should be about the same.

I just had my 45k mile service and took it to a local porsche specialist (not a dealer) that was recommended on the local Porsche club site. Given that your car is now out of warranty it is hardly worth taking it to an "official" dealer (IMHO)
He did a great job - used Mobil 1 and performed all the required checks including changing the pollen filter, fuel filter and bled the brakes with dot 4 fluid. All up was $550 odd.

I only have 31k miles but til recently this year been using it as a daily driver and loving every minute of it(hate driving my SUV-can't wait to get rid of it). How has your car held up William? Other then the early on stuff, car's been doing well-this year alone I've done like 10 DE's and drive it like I stole it and it's so much fun on the track. I'm going to get my 30k service done-how much did that costs you? Regards. Mike

My car is a daily driver and I have had only one significant problem-a bad fuel pump but the car is covered by a 100K warranty. My 30K mile service was around $450 at the dealer.

I am just coming up on 15k miles on my 2000 996. For those of you with more miles, what was the price from the dealer for the 15k service.

Pleased that you're happy with your specialist, but I thought Porsche brakes required Dot 5 fluid?
I suggest you check ASAP.

No, DOT 4.

DOT 5 is synthetic and not compatible with what is in there already.

If you'd like a good alternative to the Atlanta dealer, may I recommend Robin Hayes at Blackforest. His Porsche focused shop is in Braselton next to Road Atlanta. He recently did extensive work on my 2001 996 Cab (complete engine swap etc.) He also took excellent care of my two previous 928's which is why I sent my car to him down there, even when I live outside NYC!
