I have the Spor Classic II on my car and I believe that the rear wheel size is 18"x10". they currently have the factory 285/30/18 on them, and I need new tires.
What other size tires will fit on the 18x10" wheel? I wanted to go with 275/35/18, but on the tires1010 website, they say that size is more than 3% bigger than the factory size in overall diameter, so it is not recommended because the brakes may fail??..
Any opinions on 275/35/18 on the rear of a c2 with 18x10" wheels? Is it dangerous? They are about 3.25% bigger in overall diameter.. I figured that it cant be all that bad because some people put on bigger wheels (19". etc.. )
Reason why I want this size tire is for the cost/treadware is better w/ this size versus the 285/30/18.. altough I know I will loose some performance.

Honestly the buy a jetta
. or buy a harder compond tire, changing the O.D of the tire wheel combo is not a good idea, doing this will throw off the speedo and possibly the wheel spin sensor

For example, the 285/30/18 has a OD of 628mm and the 295/25/19 has an OD of 630mm. You just need to make sure you stay within a safe OD. But if you try to run the 30 series tire on the 19" rubber you are going to be off by almost 5% or about 32mm (or 3mph off).

I am driving a 04 996 C2.
The only tire that fits a 18x10" wheel that has an acceptable O.D. is 265/35/18.
It sounds much narrower, but can anyone confirm if this is an accpetable size for the 18"x10" wheel on a 996 C2? The 1010tires site says that a 265 wheel can fit on up to a 10.5" wheel??

I don't understand why you would want to run this size. There are lot of sizes that wil fit the wheel, but only a couple that are correct for these cars. MY 99-01 ran 18x10 rear wheels with 265/35-18 tires. MY 02-04 ran 285/30-18 on the same size wheels. I could understand wanting to run more tire (I run 295/30's on my 18x11" race wheels), but not less.

deliriun - I had 285/30/18 Pirelli P-Zeros on my '04 C2 Coupe. I went through 2 1/2 sets (long story) of rear tires in 23k miles. I loved the grip and traction of the Pirelli tires but wanted a higher mileage tire. I switched to Bridgestone RE750 tires and the rear size is 265/35/18.
The only thing I have noticed is that the Bridgestone rear tires are "harsher" riding. I can "hear & feel" the expansion joints and small road bumps much more on the Bridgestones than I did on the Pirelli tires. I don't know if the ride is "harsher" because the rubber compound is harder on the Bridgestone tires or because of the narrower 265mm width. Hope this helps.

I have had 275 35 18s on my stock 10" wheels and aftermarket wheels that are 9.5. Haven't had any problems with either that I know of. This is first I've heard of any issues. I have had 235 40s on stock 7.5s and after market 9s at the same time. Still no issues. is there something I may be m issing?
