Question Failure light twice - 996 C4S 2003 - 28,000 miles

Has anyone had the failure light with oil can symbol come on, go out, disappear for days then come on again ? Both times briefly from a few weeks ago... Oil pressure is good, level is good, engine temp normal 180, no oil leaks.......will have it checked out at dealer very soon, but thought someone may have experience with this...thanks for any thoughts...

Question

I have had the same problem twice recently on my 02 996 cab with 35k miles. Oil level OK, temp OK. Interested in other's experience with same warning.

I had this yesterday but it was accompanied with a drop to zero in oil pressure and then an instant recovery after about a second. This happened twice in about 30 seconds and then not again. I am thinking electrical fault maybe with supply to pump but only a guess.

Has anyone had this looked into further??

Search "oil sending unit". That could be a possibility.

Get a code reader like Durametric and it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Yes, it sounds like it's the sending unit.

Hey everyone. I had the exact same issue. My oil pressure gauge would drop to zero, oil light comes out then went out. I had a bad pressure sending unit. Hope this helps.

Check out this post

I've had mine changed in 2003. The fact that they didn't design the connector to be weather proof, I would imagine it will need to be replaced in the future. I've had 3-4 times in the pass 2 years where the indicator has went to 0. I think 2 times it was while going through the car wash and the other times happened after going through fog.

Try this experiment -- key on engine off -- what does the oil pressure gauge read?

BTW - I have the same problem w/ mine.
